Lightweight volunteer task claiming widget
An simple, well-designed, embeddable widget that nonprofits, open source software projects, and others can use to list specific tasks that they need help with and would like volunteers to take on. It's a little like a bugtracker, but with a few key differences: one, the tasks are primarily non-technical; two, there aren't hundreds of them, just a few that are the current priorities for the organization; and three, entering in a new task or claiming a current one is super easy and lightweight: no account creation, no endless form fields to fill out. Some tasks would only require one volunteer's help; others could take multiple interested volunteers and create a temporary 'task force', just for that task, with a temporary mailing list for everyone who has volunteered (and the task's mentor or primary institutional 'shepherd') until the task is completed.
The ultimate idea is to create an easy, quick way for all sorts of non-profits and projects of all sorts to ask for help--whether it's flyering a city neighborhood, doing background research on a certain topic, or making a logo for a new campaign--without volunteers having to commit to a formal team or committee or projects having to set up tons of infrastructure.
